Progress Week 7

Stage 3

Interface, Character

I have been played around with Unity software, 3ds Max, Bump Images software and honestly I'm still learning all the tutorial for this time being. But for now here are my ideas and most probably I will apply it on my application. Finger cross for this application and I hope the application can be run smoothly without any problems and I will try my best to make it to the level that I wanted this application to be.

(This is just an idea of my Home screen menu interface)

(been working out for this mosque and it seem like a lot of modification needed at this model)

(all the texture, structure will be improve as soon as possible)

(same goes to this character, need a lot of modification. still learning)

CONTENT RESEARCH

The Controversy of Acheen Street Mosque

-The controversy surrounding the conversation of the Acheen Street Mosque has apparently subsided. The phase one of the project is almost completed.

-In this past six months, the mosque has receive many local and foreign visitors including the Mayor of Adelaide,Australia, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, the French Ambassador to Malaysia and researchers from the United Kingdom.

-The conversation of the Acheen Street Mosque poses a great challenge to many, particularly those directly involved in the restoring the building.

-It exemplifies positive efforts by both the Federal and State Government in restoring the mosque and its surrounding properties as well as reviving the traditional and historical lifestyle and activities.

Specific Research

- The Acheen Street Mosque also known as Masjid Lebuh Acheh

-covers the restoration of the mosque and its surrounding properties including minaret, shop houses, and the town houses.

-some of the surrounding buildings including the town houses and shop houses will be converted into a gallery , Haj Museum, souvenir shops, Koranic school and culture centre.

RULES

How to play the application/Rules : The user of the application need to find all the checkpoint at the area of Lebuh Acheh and memorize it before the user can go to the next level. The model of Lebuh Acheh in this application is not the real Lebuh Acheh but slightly similar. Each of every checkpoint contains one information about the development of the Lebuh Acheh and the Street Mosque. All the checkpoint can be found in Lebuh Acheh's area. After the user go through all the checkpoint, they need to find a way to go to the Street Mosque. The environment of the Street Mosque also not the same as the real one but slightly similar to the Street Mosque. I will use somehow a forest and island environment. After they find the mosque, they need to answer all the question that will be given according to the information that they get from all the checkpoint before arrive at the mosque. The user can only win this application by answering all the question.

Progress Week 7

STAGE 1

Ideas Development

For this week, i manage myself to play around with Unity software. So here is some ideas development that i have made.

Concept Finalization

I'm gaining more and more when it comes to finalizing the island, character, environment and even the game play of this application. I'll be putting together a more comprehensive full specification later, but for now here is the update for my environment. So here we go, I decided to chose an environment of a island and forest to apply it on this application because as we know Pulau Pinang is a island and I just simply created a forest to make this application looks challenging.

(Unity-developing the environment)

(Unity-developing an ideas of this island)

As you guys see the figure above it shows that the forest or island is like 50% done. I will put a lot of house or a model of box to make that object as a place to find all of the information. The information most probably a glowing box or a character. The user need to identify which one have the information and that is the challenging parts.

Idea Development

Instruction: The user of the application need to find all the checkpoint at the area of Lebuh Acheh and memorize it before the user can go to the next level. Each of every checkpoint contains one information about the development of the Lebuh Acheh and the Street Mosque. All the checkpoint can be found in Lebuh Acheh's area. After the user go through all the checkpoint, they need to find a way to go to the Street Mosque. After they find the mosque, they need to answer all the question that will be given according to the information that they get from all the checkpoint before arrive at the mosque. The user can only win this application by answering all the question.

Details of the application: Once the application start, the user will see a main menu screen to select either they want to start playing or they wanted to see the option of the application. Once they press on play button, one short introduction or explanation of the application will appear to make sure that the user understand on how to play the application. After that, they will see a 'Next' button to start playing the application. Once they pressed on next button, the application will show the map of Lebuh Acheh's area and at the map itself will give a hint on where is the checkpoint that the user need to go through to collect all the information. After that, the user need to press another next button to proceed the application. After all the checkpoint and information has been collected by the user, the application will show another map to go the Street Mosque to make sure that the user can go to the mosque easily. After the user found the mosque, there are a point that the user need to go around the mosque's area to answer all the question based on all the information that the user get from the checkpoint at Lebuh Acheh. By answering all the question around the mosque, the user will success and win the application.

Architecture Significance

Being one of the oldest mosques in Penang to survive largely in its original form, the Acheen Street Mosque was built to complete with an octagonal minaret, an ablution area, a pool and a verandah. It is surrounded by mid 19th Century town houses, rows of shop houses and a cemetery including the mausoleum of Syed Hussain and his family. Architecturally, the mosque is essentially hybrids with a taste of the Moorish influence, orientally forms and Neo-Classical features. The styles can be seen from its arches, windows, columns, hipped roof and other elements on the minaret.

The mosque is a good example of masonry building that is rich in architectural details and vocabulary as well as the adaptation of the building elements to the local climate. The external walls are made of bricks which were plastered and painted with lime wash. There has been a succession of colour coatings on the plastered wall starting from white, light blue, yellow to the present colour of ivory. Decorative plastered renderings are featured on the capitals of the interior columns and cornices. Besides plaster and bricks, timber and marble floor tiles are widely used in the building. Timber is used for the roof structures, casement windows, fanlight, grilles and ceilings. Granite can be seen mainly around the pool and the verandah steps. The hipped roof, which resembles most the Chinese temple, used asbestos sheets and mortar located underneath the ridges. Later constructions made in the mosque include metal awning above the verandah, cemented floors, toilets and a modern ablution area.

New Proposal

Proposal

Digital Media Art

Task: In this trimester, all the Digital Media’s student in Gamma 2 has to create one interactive application. We need to do this application based on the information that we get from all the possibilities places in Pulau Pinang and we have to choose one of the most that suitable places that we will apply to our application. We required going to Pulau Pinang to take an original photos and information from the people who lives in Penang.

Objective: The objective of this project is to make sure that the user of our interactive applications understands about the main historical places in Pulau Pinang so we have to do our application in more details and clear about all the information.

Target Audience: Teenager (18-25)

Location: Pulau Pinang,Malaysia

Theme: Development of the area and the architecture of the mosque

Specific Place: Masjid Melayu Lebuh Acheh, Georgetown, Pulau Pinang

Specific Research: The Acheen Street Mosque in Georgetown Penang also known as Masjid Melayu Lebuh Acheh was founded in 1808 by Tengku Syed Hussain Al-aidid, a member of the Achehnese Royal of northen Sumatra, Indonesia. Tengku Syed Hussain who moved to Penang with his clan in 1792 was considered by Captain Francis Light as one of the wealthiest men on the island. Besides being established traders, Tengku Syed Hussain and his people were actively involved in spreading Islam in the region, particularly in Penang Island. They had opened a religious school in Acheen Street which became the first Arabic school in the locality. The mosque and its surrounding properties also hosted various business activities including pilgrim brokers, ticketing agencies, bazaar traders, hotel, shop and printing presses.

The area was known as the 'second Jeddah' to the Muslim in the South-East Asia region as it served pilgrims bound for Mekkah, Saudi Arabia. The entire complex is historically and architecturally important as it reflects the earliest Muslim urban community in Penang comprising of the Malays, Indian Muslim, Arabs and the Achehnese. For many years, the area had been an attractive destination for Sumatran immigrants seeking better fortune in Penang. However with the advent of aeroplane and the establishment of the Lembaga Urusan Tabung Haji Malaysia in 1969, the business and pilgrimage activities in the mosque complex gradually died out.

In the 1960, the mosque and their surrounding properties have been endowed for religious and cultural purposed, and it is administered by the Penang State Religious Council. In May 1984, the Acheen Street Mosque was gazetted by the Malaysian Government, under the Antiquities Act of 1976, which then gives some protection and encourages its conversation and preservation. The Acheen Street Mosque as well as other significant monuments and landmarks around the area including Syed Al-Attas Mansion and Armenian Street, Khoo Kongsi Temple and Cannon Square identified as important cultural heritage sites in the sites in the city of Georgetown. In 1987, the whole area has been designed by the Penang Island Municipal Council as one of the five conservation areas in the inner city.

Specific Research Method: In this research, I will personally go to Pulau Pinang to take make a research more clearly and accurate about this mosque. I will take a picture of the mosque by myself to make it original pictures and not taken from the internet. While I’m doing this research, I will ask the people who lives in Penang about this mosque whether the history of it or the details of the mosque. I will try to find more information of this mosque by reading a history book or magazine to put in at my application.

Developing Research and Ideas: According to my personal timeline, on week 4 which mean last week I already go to Pulau Pinang to do my primary research. Based on my researched that I have made, I realized that Acheen Street Mosque have much more information that I needed than Masjid Kaiptan Keling and i decided to choose The Acheen Street Mosque as my subject matter. I will focus on the development of the Acheen street area including the Acheen Street Mosque and their culture heritage. All the information that I got was originally taken from the Culture Heritage information building itself and not from the internet.

Application Information:

*Title for the application: Acheen and The Street Warrior

*Software: Adobe Flash, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe audition and Unity

*Duration of application's intro: 1 minute

*Type of content: Informative, gallery and entertaining method
